Batesford Quarry

Our ongoing work at the Adelaide Brighton-Batesford Quarry located on the Midland Highway in Victoria, from importing materials via large scale rehabilitation, through to exporting of materials to new development sites including ‘The Point’, exemplifies project management at the highest level.

Scope Australia’s involvement initially came in assisting in the rehabilitation of the Batesford Quarry near Fyansford by supporting the export of an estimated 80,000 cubic meters of Limestone-sand from the site. Rehabilitation of the retired limestone quarry hopes to create a recreational lake 30 meters deep and 164 hectares in size which will eventually naturally fill up with 48 billion liters of rainwater and lime-filtered groundwater making it twice the size of Mt Gambier’s Blue Lake.

A large portion of the materials will then be exported towards new development sites in regional Victoria including ‘The Point’ in a bid to aid the project’s complex and detailed sustainability master plan which has attracted a UDIA Award for environmental excellence. We expect to import 2000 cubic meters of limestone-sand per day to build an uncontaminated soil foundation that was previously uninhabitable after decades of mining.
